Hi Nancy,
I first wanted to tell you that I absolutely love your book. You are so courageous to write so openly and sincerely about the very things all of us think about but rarely talk about. The media has given us a distorted view of what beauty is and I’ve lived for years feeling like I could never measure up to the standard of beauty I felt everyone expected of me. I know it sounds stupid, but it wasn’t until I came across your book and coincidentally another book about self-love recently that I even really thought what I’ve been doing to myself.
By the way, I was wondering about your thoughts on the other book, “Body Esteem, Weight Loss Through Self-Discovery.” Have you read it? It uses written exercises and visualization to learn to love your body and lose weight. Rather than focusing on dieting, I thought I’d try this kind of approach. There’s lots of questions about how I see myself and the way my perception of the expectations my family and society have of my affect the way I feel about myself. It’s got CDs that a suppose to relax me and help me love myself by feeling love for myself.
What’s your thoughts on this? Do you think affirmations and positive thinking are a good way to love yourself more? Did you ever use that kind of stuff in your life?
Thanks so much. Peace.
